The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him)received a warm welcome from the people of Madinah.Change of Qiblah: The prophet and his followers used to faceJerusalem while praying to Allah daily. Jerusalem was their Qiblah(direction) for prayers. Allah ordered the Prophet (peace be uponhim) to change Qiblah from al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem to theKabah in Makkah.The Battle of Badr: (17 Ramadan, 2 A.H.): 1300 strong army ofMakkans came all the way to Madinah to attack the 313-317Muslims soldiers. An outnumbered Muslim army defeated them atBadr near Madinah. The great tyrant Abu Jahl was killed. In thisbattle 14 Muslims soldiers were killed & 70 Polytheists were killed.Fasting made obligatory: The fasting of Ramadan was establishedas an obligatory observance in the year 2 A.H., along with the dutyimposed upon Muslims of paying Zakat.The Battle of Uhud: (7 Shawwal, 3 A.H.): The Muslims weredefeated at Uhud outside Madinah.
