When Allah, may He be blessedand exalted, wishes good for His slave, He hastens the punishmentfor his sin, so that it is dealt with before the Day of Resurrection."(Reported by al-Haakim, 1/349, who said this hadeeth is saheehaccording to the conditions of Muslim, and al-Dhahabi agreed withhim. See Saheeh al-Jaami', 308).These aayaat and ahaadeeth clearly indicate that it is haraam(forbidden) for men to have any kind of friendship or relationshipwith non-mahram women (women to whom they are not closelyrelatedand to whom they could get married). The evilconsequences and misery caused by such relationships are obviousto anyone who observes real life. We ask Allah to keep us far awayfrom that which is forbidden, to protect us from all that may earnHis wrath and to keep us safe from a painful punishment. May Allahbless our Prophet Muhammad.Prohibition of Free-Mixing BetweenMen and WomenThe terms "mixing" and "mingling" are used frequently indiscussions on the subject of male-female relations in Islam, butthese terms were not used at the time the Qur'an was revealed. Forthis reason, we cannot find direct references in the Qur'an andSunnah that say "free mixing between men and women isunlawful". However, this does not mean that such conduct ispermissible or that Islam has failed to address the matter.
