FOUNDATIONS IN SCIENCE 467 (SP)
Grades: 9-12 Grouping: Homogeneous
Foundations in Science is a full year course that can be taken for one year or two
consecutive years. It provides a basis in Life Science and is closely correlated
with the Massachusetts State Science Frameworks with the MCAS test in mind.
This course is designed for students who learn best by having the opportunity to
see material in many different forms and may require more time to master
science content and prepare for state standardized testing. This offering is by
teacher recommendation only

BIOLOGY 421 (H)
Grades: 9-12 Grouping: Homogeneous
Prerequisite: By Recommendation of the Department
Minimum grade of A in 8th Grade Science; recommended for 9 th grade Geometry
(H) (concurrently)
Biology (H) is offered to students in all grades. This course is designed to
provide the student with a comprehensive understanding of life and living
things. The course is organized around the theme of ecology and focuses on the
role of humans on the planet. Examples of topics covered are ecology, matter and
energy, cells, photosynthesis cell respiration, heredity, molecular gene evolution
classification, microorganisms, plants and animals, and the human body.

BIOLOGY 422 (AE)
Grades: 10 -12 Grouping: Homogeneous
Biology (AE) is an accelerated course which will cover the following topics in
detail: cellular biology, genetics, evolution, classification, micro-biology, plants,
invertebrates, vertebrates, human biology and ecology.

BIOLOGY 423 (CP), 460 (SP)
Grades: 10 - 12 Grouping: Homogeneous
Biology (CP) is a college preparatory course designed to provide the students
with a fundamental understanding of the major topics in biology. The following
topics will be covered: ecology, biochemistry, cellular biology, genetics, natural
selection, classification, a survey of major kingdoms and human biology. The
Biology (SP) course covers, at a slower pace, concepts and skills required for
college admissions. This offering is by teacher recommendation only.
