ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE 459 (H/AP)

The Environmental Science (H/AP) is designed to be the equivalent of a one
semester introductory college course in environmental science. It is a rigorous
science course that stresses scientific principles and analysis, and includes a
laboratory component. The course will provide students with the principles,
concepts and methodologies needed to understand the interrelationships of the
natural world, and to identify and analyze environmental problems, with the
goal of examining alternative solutions for resolving and preventing such
problems. Areas of study include ecology, population, energy, pollution, land
use, waste management, and global climate change. Students completing this
course may take the Advanced Placement Exam in Environmental Science.
Full year course, 5 times per week, 5 credits
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE 458 (H/AP) (On-Line Course)
Grades: 11-12 Grouping: Heterogeneous
Prerequisites: By Recommendation of the Department
The hybrid online Environmental Science Course (H/AP) is designed to be the
equivalent of a one semester introductory college course in environmental
science. This section of this course will meet on Wednesday nights from 7-9 PM
and the remainder of the course will be completed online. The class meetings
will focus on the laboratory component of the course and be used for unit tests.
The course will address the same principles, concepts, and methodologies as the
in-class section with an increased emphasis on case studies and other
applications. Students completing this course may take the Advanced Placement
Exam in Environmental Science.
The first class will be on held on September 5, 2012.
