PERFORMING ARTS
Education in the Arts plays a major role in three general areas of educational
impact: societal, instructional and individual. Societally, students gain
knowledge of events and historical movements that shaped society.
Instructionally, the arts may help to develop critical and creative thinking skills.
Individually, the arts can provide the means for communicating thoughts,
emotions, and ideas that cannot otherwise be expressed.
For those students interested in developing skills in voice, instrumental, and
drama performance, the Performing Arts Department offers courses and
activities of considerable variety. Performance material is selected to: meet the
varied needs and skill levels of the students; provide cultural enrichment for the
students; provide aesthetic value for the students; make provision for technical
growth of the students; provide for school and community service; create
interdisciplinary relationships.
CONCERT CHOIR 873
Grades: 9-12 Grouping: Heterogeneous
Prerequisite: Men grades 9-12, Women grade 11-12
As part of the Vocal Program, the Concert Choir is open to all grade levels,
however, to help maintain proper balance of male to female voices, all freshman
and sophomore girls are assigned to La Cappella. Fundamentals of singing
technique and music reading are stressed. Choral literature from all periods of
composition is used to build repertoire for programs throughout the year. There
will occasionally be after school commitments for school and community
performances. All participants must perform at all concerts and other events
scheduled by the Director. Concert Dress Attire is required at own expense.
Full year course, meets alternate days, 2.5 credits
LA CAPPELLA 870
Grades: 9 & 10 Grouping: female
Prerequisite: None
As part of the vocal program, La Cappella is comprised of women in grades 9 &
10, but is open to women of all grade levels. Fundamentals of singing technique
and music reading are stressed. Choral literature from all periods of composition
with three and four part music for treble voices is used to build repertoire for
