This course will follow the curriculum of the Italian IV H course with fewer
independent assignments to be completed outside of class.

Prerequisite: C or higher in Italian III H
Italian IV H is taught at a challenging and aggressive pace. Students will work
with the Con Fantasia text book to further enhance their grammar skills, covering
the last seven chapters of the book. Students will practice their skills in reading,
writing, listening and speaking through themes such as transportation, sports,
formal and informal encounters, the work place, the world of animals, the world
of cinema, family structures, and fashion. Verbal expression continues to be an
integral part of the course as students will have the opportunity to engage in
presentations, debates, skits, and spontaneous speaking activities to improve
their speaking skills. Through a variety of literary mediums, including a short
novel, news articles, short stories, poems, and excerpts from Italian plays,
students will refine their reading comprehension and writing skills. Music, films,
and other audio recordings will be used to sharpen listening skills and will serve
as a departure point from which class discussions will take place. Culturally,
students will reflect on previously studied material and apply it to the study of
Italian-American culture here in the United States, with a piece that allows them
to reflect on their own personal heritage as well.
