7-126 INTERACTIVE <strong>FAMILY</strong> HISTORIESJOSEPH DANIEL <strong>BROOKS</strong> (2.3.2) is the son of Isham Brooks and Lezina(Daniel) Brooks. Joseph was born on May 21, 1814 in Putnam County, Georgia.On September 28, 1841, Joseph Brooks married Teresa Maria (Sikes) Robertson.Teresa was born on October 12, 1811 and is the daughter of John Sikes andElizabeth Sikes. Teresa first married Henry Robertson around 1826 and hadthree children by her first marriage: John Henry Robertson (born March 7,1829), Julia Ann Robertson (born November 19, 1830) and Sarah Elizabeth Robertson(born November 11, 1835). Sarah Elizabeth Robertson later married herstep-father’s brother, Robert Brooks (2.3.5). In 1850 and 1860, Joseph waslisted in the censuses as a physician and he and his wife were living in TalbotCounty, Georgia. Joseph and Teresa Brooks were the parents of at least fivechildren:............Robert Augustus Brooks (2.3.2.1), b. September 26, 1842, Georgia............James Henry Brooks, b. September 27, 1844, Georgia............Joseph Wiley Brooks (2.3.2.3), b. April 23, 1847, Georgia............James Henry Brooks (2.3.2.4), b. January 12, 1850, Georgia............William Sidney Brooks (2.3.2.5), b. June 11, 1852, Talbot County, GeorgiaJoseph and Teresa Brooks had two sons named James Henry Brooks. The firstwas born on September 27, 1844 and died on May 25, 1848. On January 12,1850, Joseph and Teresa named another son by the same name. Joseph DanielBrooks died on December 25, 1868 and was buried in the Valley Cemetery inTalbot County, Georgia. Robert was born on September 26, 1842 inGeorgia. Robert Brooks was a student at Emory College when the Civil War began.He volunteered for service in the Confederate Army. Robert AugustusBrooks died of typhoid in Farmville, Virginia on December 23, 1862. At thattime, Robert was a private in the Georgia Infantry, Company A of the FourthRegiment.
