On March 18, 1869, Mattie Brooks married George W.Hightower in Pike County, Alabama. George served in the Confederate Army inCompany I of the 36th Texas Infantry. George was born on July 5, 1846 in Alabama.George and Mattie Hightower had no children - but did raise theirnephew, Wiley Mansel, as their own son. In 1880, George and MarthaHightower were living in Madison County, Texas. In 1900, 1910 and 1920,George and Martha Hightower were living in Leon County, Texas. In 1910,Martha Hightower’s father, Sterling H. Brooks, and their nephew, Wiley Mansel,were living with them. George W.
