7-232 INTERACTIVE <strong>FAMILY</strong> HISTORIESJordan Slaughter was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War. From 1870 to1880, Jordan and Rebecca Slaughter were living in Stewart County, Georgia.For a number of years, he served on the Board of Education of Stewart County,Georgia. Rebecca (Dority) Slaughter died on October 26, 1888 and was buriedin the Providence Cemetery in Stewart County, Georgia. On November 13,1890, Jordan married a second time to Mattie E. (Williamson) Perkins. Mattiewas previously married to Abner Wesley Perkins, son of Thomas W. Perkins(2.6.8) who was Jordan Slaughter’s first cousin. In 1900, Jordan and MattieSlaughter were living in Stewart County, Georgia. Jordan Slaughter died onApril 25, 1907 and was buried in the Providence Cemetery in Stewart County,Georgia. After Jordan’s death, Mattie moved to Louisiana. William and Elizabeth Cliatt had at least onedaughter:............Birdie CliattElizabeth (Slaughter) Cliatt died on February 13, 1931. William was born on September 15, 1855 in Alabama and isthe son of John Daniel Newman and Patience (Cannington) Newman. William’sbrother, John Daniel Newman, Jr., married Sarah Slaughter’s sister, GeorgiaRebecca Slaughter (2.5.2.8). William and Sarah Newman were the parents ofseven children:............Jay Newman, b.
