Bess was born on September 20, 1909 inSan Marcos, Texas. Bess Danforth graduated from Southwest Texas StateTeacher’s College in San Marcos, Texas and taught school for twelve years. OnNovember 27, 1934, Bess Danforth married Clarence Michael Halm. Clarencewas born on February 7, 1910 in Kingsberry, Texas and is the son of Oscar JosephHalm and Margaret (Klein) Halm. During World War II, Bess received aradio broadcast ovation for her service as a WAC enlisting officer for MasonCounty, Texas. Bess is an artist, art teacher, and antique collector. Bess is alsoa member of the Pi Gamma Mu and Delta Kappa Gamma honor societies. In1936, she designed the Texas Independence Centennial Air Mail Stamp and Cachet.Clarence Halm is a member ot the Elks Club and Lions Club and waspresident of the Chamber of Commerce of Mason, Texas. Clarence sells InternationalHarvester farm implements and Pontiac cars. Clarence and Bess Halmare the parents of two children:............Michael Danforth Halm, b. March 17, 1944............Allen Joseph Halm, b. September 15, 1946, Seguin, TexasClarence Halm died on April 21, 1955. As of 1978, Bessie Halm lives inKingsland, Texas where she owns and operates an antique and gift shop. MichaelHalm died on the same day that he was born. Vivian was born on May 23, 1913 in Grimes,Oklahoma. Vivian received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwest TexasState Teacher’s College in San Marcos, Texas and she taught school for twelveyears. Vivian then entered the Civil Service at Kelly Field. Vivian also tookNavy training courses at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Afterher Navy training courses, she became a WAVE and was given an assignment inthe Bureau of Navy Personnel in Washington, D.C. Vivian was then transferredto the Educational Division of the Naval Hospital at San Diego, California.
