7-128 INTERACTIVE <strong>FAMILY</strong> HISTORIESROLAND EDGAR <strong>BROOKS</strong> (2.3.2.4.1) is the son of James Henry Brooks andAnna M. (Moore) Brooks. Roland was born on February 14, 1874 inMilledgeville, Georgia. Roland attended the Georgia Military College inMilledgeville, but withdrew from there to enter Emory College. In 1893, RolandE. Brooks received an A. B. degree from Emory College. After graduation, hemoved to Fort Worth, Texas as a professor of Latin and Greek in the PolytechnicCollege, with which he was connected for three years. On December 31, 1896,Roland E. Brooks married Wessie Adkisson (born in Texas) and they were theparents of one son:............Candler Adkisson Brooks (2.3.2.4.1.1), b. September 28, 1896, Fort Worth, TexasWessie (Adkisson) Brooks died in Georgia and was buried in Montezuma, Georgia.Roland E. Brooks married a second time to Jane Lewis of Montezuma,Georgia and they were the parents of one son:............Charles Lewis Brooks (2.3.2.4.1.2)Roland E. Brooks was principal of the Eufaula district school at Clayton, Alabama,for four years and for a year was a professor of mathematics at Tuskegee,Alabama. He then returned to Georgia and served successively at Montezuma,Blakely and Dublin. In 1914, he assumed the duties of superintendent of thecity schools of Albany. He has taken postgraduate courses at the State Universitiesof Georgia, Tennessee and Colorado, also at the University of Chicago.Roland E. Candler was born on September 28,1896 in Fort Worth, Texas. On December 31, 1919, Candler Brooks marriedCornelia Agnes Bethune. Cornelia was born on September 23, 1898 and was thedaughter of Benjamin Thomas Bethune and Josephine (Moore) Bethune.Candler and Cornelia Brooks were the parents of at least two sons:............Candler Adkisson Brooks, Jr. (2.3.2.4.1.1.1), b. January 18, 1920, Georgia............Roland Edgar Brooks, b. 1920’sCandler Brooks, Sr. graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology, butlater abandoned engineering and became an officer in a bank in Naples, Florida.Candler Brooks died in 1974 and was buried in Naples, Florida. Roland E.Brooks and his wife, Sherry, are the parents of three children: - Charles Brooks(single in the Army), - Lyn Brooks (married and lives in Tampa, Florida), -Jay Candler Brooks (single in the Army).
