General Reference GuideAppendix10.5 Resetting the eWON10.5.1 OverviewIn some situation it may be desired or required to initialize the eWON.The eWON has a non volatile memory which is used to store configurations and acquired data. Non volatile information is basically divided into 2groups:• Communication configuration• The rest of the non volatile data (file system, Tag Config, user defined web site, etc.)The reset button is located between the SERIAL and LINE connectors. A very small hole is located in the box; you will need a thin tool like apaper clip to push the button.The button must be pressed while the eWON is powered up. The button must be maintained until correct initialization level has been reached(see below):User ledReset hole10.5.2 Reset sequenceFigure 141: eWON - reset hole and "USER" ledThere are 2 initialization levels:• The first level (the more usual) will force a format of the eWON.• The second level will reset the eWON in a state corresponding to the "out of the box" configuration. By doing this you will alsoperform a thorough self test of the eWON.10.5.2.1 First level resetWhen the eWON boots with the reset button pressed, after 4 seconds, the "USER" led will start blinking in red at a 1 flash per second rate. Assoon as the led starts blinking at that rate, release the switch. The Format request will be set. The blinking will continue during 15 seconds, sothere is no need to hurry, but you must release the switch before the 15 seconds elapse.10.5.2.2 Second level resetIf the reset button is maintained for more than 15 seconds after blinking starts, the "USER" led will stop blinking and will become solid red, at thatmoment the "Out of the box reset" is registered, the reset button can be released and all the data of the eWON will be erased, including itscommunication, IP address,… parameters.The eWON configuration tool eBuddy will be required to define your eWON working IP address.Note: if you have waited too long and the "USER" led becomes "solid red" while you only needed to format the eWON, the only solution is to keepthe reset button pressed and remove the eWON power, this will avoid entering the "Full Erase" procedure.10.5.3 Second level initialization diagnosticsWhen the second level initialization is requested, the eWON will also perform a self test. When the initialization ends, the test result is displayedvia the "USER" led. If the test is successful, the following pattern will be displayed on the led.The led will flash for 200msec every 1.5 seconds. General Reference GuideAppendixIf an error is detected during the test, the led will show the error code with the following pattern:1 sec.Error pattern for code = 2This example shows the case where error code is 2. The pattern is repeated indefinitely until the eWON is manually rebooted (power OFF/PowerON).The pattern starts with a short blink of 200msec indicating the pattern start, then N blinks, each during 1 second are displayed. Then the patternis repeated, etc.The number of 1 second blinks is defined by the type of error detected:Number of blinksError meaning10.5.4 Entering level 2 initialization without requestThe eWON may enter level 2 test without request in the following case:• If the IO CPU is not responding at boot timeIn that special case you may detect the typical led blinking of the level 2 initialization, without having requested that mode.10.5.5 What to do in case of error?If an error is detected during the self test, run the test again to confirm the result. If test error persists, then contact the factory for return and repairprocedure.10.5.6 Important remark1 RAM Test error2 Flash erase error3 Flash write error4 Real Time Clock error5 Flash identification failed6 IO CPU not respondingTable 186: eWON USER led blinks meaningWhen performing a level 2 self test, it is important to let the test run until the end, if you stop the test before the end, the flash memory may containrandom data that may cause unexpected operation of the eWON when it will start.For this reason, a self test must always be continued until the "USER" led displays the test result.In case if trouble you can perform the level 2 initialization again to return to a normal situation.RG-001-0-EN ver 1.5 eWON® - 20/03/2009 - ©ACT'L sa Page 202
