Specialconsideration will be given to business choosing to locate in Old <strong>Hilliard</strong><strong>The</strong> citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hilliard</strong> have indicated their desire to establish themselvesas a lifelong community. Although <strong>Hilliard</strong> has been successful in attractingmiddle-aged adults, the city does not hold the same appeal for youngadults who are in the 18 to 24 age range. This demographic makes up alittle more than 6% <strong>of</strong> the city’s population. 72 Several factors contributeto this drastic population decline <strong>of</strong> 18 to 24 year olds. However, onereason for this is because <strong>Hilliard</strong> does not currently <strong>of</strong>fer many amenitiesor entertainment options that appeal to young adults. If the city wishesto become a lifelong community they must begin to establish and attractbusinesses that will draw in this demographic. 73<strong>The</strong> city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hilliard</strong> has established that they seek to increase the number<strong>of</strong> businesses in Old <strong>Hilliard</strong> and establish it as an economic hub for thecity. Over the last five years, only a couple <strong>of</strong> new businesses have chosento locate in Old <strong>Hilliard</strong>. However, for the city to establish an economichub, they must first have the right population demographic. Establishing<strong>Hilliard</strong> as an economic hub will be difficult with such a minute percentage<strong>of</strong> young adults that live in the community. However if Old <strong>Hilliard</strong> starts<strong>of</strong>fering amenities and entertainment options for young adults, it is likely tobecome a hub <strong>of</strong> economic activity.Short Term (1-3 years)» Hire a market consultant to conduct an analysis <strong>of</strong> existingeconomic hubs such as Grandview and Old <strong>Hilliard</strong>. By focusingon these nodes, the market consultant will determine whatbusinesses would help <strong>Hilliard</strong> to attract a younger demographic.106
