As discussed in the Indicatorssection, accessible parkland promotes physical activity andimproves the health <strong>of</strong> the community. <strong>The</strong> following recommendationsare provided to continually improve these aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hilliard</strong>’s parksand public spaces.Recommendation: Increase the amount <strong>of</strong> parkland to create more publicspace for each resident and provide a greater diversity <strong>of</strong> amenities inpublic parks.Currently in <strong>Hilliard</strong> there are 11.5 acres <strong>of</strong> parkland per 1,000 residents.This is relatively low compared to the other cities in Central Ohio. However,calculating the surrounding metro parks, <strong>Hilliard</strong> has 78 acres <strong>of</strong> parklandper 1,000 residents which is relatively high compared to other Central Ohiocities as listed in Figure 3.7. <strong>The</strong>refore, <strong>Hilliard</strong> is not lacking access to largerparks and increasing the number <strong>of</strong> smaller neighborhood parks may bethe next step towards improving park access in <strong>Hilliard</strong>.In addition, our survey <strong>of</strong> residents and public input during the development<strong>of</strong> the Comprehensive <strong>Plan</strong> indicated a desire for more programs,activities and amenities in the parks. 119 <strong>The</strong> Land Use and Urban Ecology74» Source: <strong>Hilliard</strong> Comprehensive <strong>Plan</strong>
