Space Shuttle <strong>Program</strong> Historic Properties 5-20<strong>NASA</strong>-wide Roll-up Report5.3.3 Type 3: Launch Oper<strong>at</strong>ion FacilitiesTen historic properties are classified as launch oper<strong>at</strong>ions facilities:• Launch Control Center <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• LC 39: Pad A <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• LC 39: Pad B <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• Mission Control Center <strong>at</strong> JSC• Two Crawler Transporters <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• Crawlerway <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• Three MLPs <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>All but one of the 10 assets, the MCC <strong>at</strong> JSC, is loc<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>at</strong> the <strong>KSC</strong>. All play a vital rolein the SSP, from the control of prelaunch oper<strong>at</strong>ions to the launch of the Space Shuttlevehicle. All are eligible under NRHP Criterion A for their exceptionally significantassoci<strong>at</strong>ions with the SSP; some are also distinguished by their design and construction,and thus, are eligible under Criterion C. Of the 10 assets affili<strong>at</strong>ed with this property type,only Launch Complex (LC) 39 Pad A and Pad B are classified solely as a Type 3property. The two Crawler Transporters, the Crawlerway, and the three MLPs are alsoclassified as Resources Associ<strong>at</strong>ed with Transport<strong>at</strong>ion (Type 1), and are described inSection 5.3.1. The LCC is also classified as a Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Facilities (Type 6), whilethe MCC is affili<strong>at</strong>ed with Property Type 4 (Mission Control Facilities), Type 6(Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Facilities), and Type 10 (Resources Associ<strong>at</strong>ed with the Training ofAstronauts), in addition to Type 3.
