Space Shuttle <strong>Program</strong> Historic Properties D-1<strong>NASA</strong>-wide Roll-up ReportQUALIFICATIONS OF KEY PERSONNELJoan DemingJoan Deming, co-principal and Vice President of Archaeological Consultants, Inc., hasmore than 30 years of Cultural Resource Management experience. A RegisteredProfessional Archaeologist (RPA), she received an M.A. in Anthropology/PublicArchaeology from the University of South Florida in 1976, and has completed advancedtraining in Section 106 Agreement Document Prepar<strong>at</strong>ion, Cultural ResourceManagement Plans: Prepar<strong>at</strong>ion and Implement<strong>at</strong>ion, and Integr<strong>at</strong>ing NEPA and Section106. She also has specialized training and experience in N<strong>at</strong>ive American coordin<strong>at</strong>ionunder the N<strong>at</strong>ive American Graves Protection and Rep<strong>at</strong>ri<strong>at</strong>ion Act (NAGPRA), as wellas archaeological collections and records management.Since 1990, Ms. Deming has managed all ACI's work on behalf of the N<strong>at</strong>ionalAeronautics and Space Administr<strong>at</strong>ion (<strong>NASA</strong>) <strong>at</strong> the Kennedy Space Center (<strong>KSC</strong>) andfor the U.S. Air Force <strong>at</strong> Cape Canaveral Air Force St<strong>at</strong>ion. These investig<strong>at</strong>ions includea multi-year <strong>KSC</strong>-wide archaeological survey and prepar<strong>at</strong>ion of one site loc<strong>at</strong>ionpredictive model; archaeological surveys of several proposed development parcelsconducted in compliance with Section 106 of the N<strong>at</strong>ional Historic Preserv<strong>at</strong>ion Act; thedevelopment of standard oper<strong>at</strong>ing procedures for the management of <strong>NASA</strong>’s recordspertaining to cultural resources; an inventory and assessment of archaeologicalcollections and the evalu<strong>at</strong>ion of cur<strong>at</strong>orial facilities; survey and evalu<strong>at</strong>ion of <strong>NASA</strong>controlledfacilities within the KCS; and prepar<strong>at</strong>ion of a Cultural Resource ManagementPlan (CRMP) for the <strong>KSC</strong>. She is currently managing a <strong>NASA</strong>-wide survey andevalu<strong>at</strong>ion of historic facilities in the context of the Space Shuttle <strong>Program</strong>, includingwork on behalf of <strong>NASA</strong>’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio; Dryden Flight ResearchCenter in California; the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama; the Johnson SpaceCenter in Texas; the White Sands Flight Facility in New Mexico; and the <strong>KSC</strong> in Florida.P<strong>at</strong>ricia SlovinacP<strong>at</strong>ricia (Trish) Slovinac is an Architectural Historian for Archaeological Consultants,Inc. (ACI). She <strong>at</strong>tended The University of Virginia (UVA) where she completed coursework for the degree of Master of Architectural History, with a Certific<strong>at</strong>e in HistoricPreserv<strong>at</strong>ion. Prior to joining ACI, Ms. Slovinac was employed by the N<strong>at</strong>ionalArchitectural Trust in Washington, D.C., focusing on the don<strong>at</strong>ion of Conserv<strong>at</strong>ionEasements. This involved evalu<strong>at</strong>ing historic structures for the purpose of determiningtheir significance as part of a N<strong>at</strong>ional Register of Historic Places (NRHP) historicdistrict. Ms. Slovinac has experience in the prepar<strong>at</strong>ion of historic contexts,historical/architectural field survey and site document<strong>at</strong>ion, N<strong>at</strong>ional Registernomin<strong>at</strong>ions, and mitig<strong>at</strong>ion measures for historic resources, including HABS/HAERdocument<strong>at</strong>ion. Space Shuttle <strong>Program</strong> Historic Properties D-2<strong>NASA</strong>-wide Roll-up ReportAs part of ACI’s <strong>NASA</strong>-wide survey and evalu<strong>at</strong>ion of historic facilities in the context ofthe Space Shuttle <strong>Program</strong>, Ms. Slovinac is assisting in the development of a historiccontext, and has taken the lead on the field survey <strong>at</strong> various <strong>NASA</strong> Centers including the<strong>KSC</strong>, the Marshall Space Flight Center, the Johnson Space Center (JSC), the GlennResearch Center, the Dryden Flight Research Center, and the White Sands Flight Facility.Work consists of a review of the facilities in terms of eligibility for the N<strong>at</strong>ional Registerof Historic Place, and for <strong>KSC</strong>, the prepar<strong>at</strong>ion of N<strong>at</strong>ional Register nomin<strong>at</strong>ions andupd<strong>at</strong>ing <strong>KSC</strong>’s Multiple Property cover nomin<strong>at</strong>ion.July 2008Archaeological Consultants, Inc.
