Space Shuttle <strong>Program</strong> Historic Properties 5-40<strong>NASA</strong>-wide Roll-up Report5.3.9 Type 9: Manufacturing and Assembly FacilitiesSix historic properties are classified as Type 9: Manufacturing and Assembly Facilities:• Thermal Protection System Facility <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• Parachute Refurbishment Facility <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• Pacific Scientific Furnace <strong>at</strong> Canoga Park• OPF High Bay 3 <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• SRB ARF Manufacturing Building <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>• Shuttle Orbiter Final Assembly Building <strong>at</strong> PalmdaleFour properties are loc<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>at</strong> <strong>KSC</strong>, and one each is loc<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>at</strong> the Canoga Park Facilityand Palmdale. All six Type 9 assets are eligible under NRHP Criterion A as significantplaces where major Space Shuttle flight components, including the SRBs, SSMEs, andTPS m<strong>at</strong>erials, were manufactured or assembled; some are also eligible under Criterion Cfor their design and construction. The Shuttle Orbiter Final Assembly Building, alsoclassified as Types 2 and 7, is described in Section 5.3.2. The OPF High Bay 3 and SRBARF Manufacturing Building also are both described in Section 5.3.2 as Type 2: VehicleProcessing Facilities.
