Weather forecast through indigenousknowledge for the vegetable crops indrought-prone area of Vietnam An HaiCommune, Ninh Phouc District,Ninh Thuan Provice, Vietnam 190 .knowledge is a tool for effective tsunami mitigation with theright combination of education and physiography. Places withlarge coastal plains have a difficult evacuation of the coast, especially if population densities are high as in the case ofBanda Aceh, Indonesia in the Indian Ocean tsunami of2004. However, a barrier reef, a lagoon-wide support and themangroves were not sufficient to protect the residents of NewManra because they had no knowledge of tsunamis in theregion. The observation of insects and weather phenomena suchas halos were used as a means of empirical weatherforecasts before the weather technologies had beendeveloped. The indigenous knowledge is transmitted overthousands of years and generations by the community. Theseare based on practical experience and have been in use for along time. In some areas where residents lack access to hightechnology, traditional weather forecasts based on theobservation of the moon and insects play an important role inagricultural activities. The main problem inthe An Hai community is the lack of clean water for crops.Knowledge of the exact date of the rainy seasonand drought forecasting helps farmers choose crops, seedsand sowing and planting time. From this traditional knowledgeis very useful in areas without access to the methods of weatherforecasting, these strategies can and should be disseminated toother communities in regions with low development rates.190 Weather Forecasting through Indigenous Knowledge for Crop Cultivation in the Drought Prone Area of Vietnam, Nguyen Ngoc Huy & Rajib Shaw.
