Learning Opportunities for High School <strong>Student</strong>sHigh school students seeking an early start on earning college credit have a number <strong>of</strong> opportunities at UM-<strong>Helena</strong> throughDual Credit courses, On Campus Experience, and Big Sky Pathways. <strong>College</strong> Level Examination Program (CLEP) andAdvanced Placement (AP) credits are also accepted.Dual Credit CoursesUM-<strong>Helena</strong> provides dual credit courses for high school students through interlocal agreements across the region with thefollowing districts and high schools: Broadwater County, Drummond, Granite County, <strong>Helena</strong> School District, JeffersonCounty, and Three Forks. Dual credit allows students to enroll in courses at their high schools that satisfy diplomarequirements and provide college credits applicable towards degree and certificate programs at UM-<strong>Helena</strong>.• Dual credit courses are provided at a reduced cost for tuition and fees.• Earned credits are accepted by the high school and UM-<strong>Helena</strong>.• Earned credits can be transferable to other colleges and universities.• Course availability varies by high school location.• Certain eligibility requirements apply, and students must satisfy all course prerequisites and placementrequirements.(See Admission Requirements on page 10)<strong>Student</strong>s interested in dual credit courses should contact their high school counselors and the Registrar’s Office at UM-<strong>Helena</strong>,406-444-6800 or 800-241-4882.On Campus ExperienceThe On Campus Experience Program allows area high school students the opportunity to experience the college environmentby taking classes at UM-<strong>Helena</strong>. Eligible students can start working on a degree or certificate program <strong>of</strong>fered by the college orearn transferable credits towards a four-year degree from the Montana University System.• Courses are open based upon seat availability one week prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> each semester.• <strong>Student</strong>s pay only the cost for fees, books, and supplies. Tuition is free.• <strong>Student</strong>s may register for up six credits per semester and must satisfy any course prerequisites or placementrequirements.• <strong>Student</strong>s must be 16 years <strong>of</strong> age, in their junior or senior year, and must provide pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> high school enrollment orparticipation in a home schooling program.• <strong>Student</strong>s must submit a non-degree application and a $30 nonrefundable application fee and meet with an advisor toregister for courses.• <strong>Student</strong>s and their parents are encouraged to attend the On Campus Experience Orientation normally scheduled inthe evening, prior to the start <strong>of</strong> each semester.<strong>Student</strong>s interested in participating in the On Campus Experience Program should contact Enrollment Services at406-444-6826 or 800-241-4882 x6826. Course registration opens one week prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> each semester. High schoolstudents meeting enrollment eligibility requirements are welcome to register earlier for up to six course credits each semesterby submitting a non-degree application; however, no tuition waiver will be granted.Career PathwaysThe University <strong>of</strong> Montana-<strong>Helena</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong> is a former member <strong>of</strong> the Central Montana Tech Prep Consortiumand presently an active participant in the development <strong>of</strong> Big Sky Pathways.
