<strong>Student</strong> InformationFood ServiceThe UM-<strong>Helena</strong> food service is located in the <strong>Student</strong> Centerat the Donaldson Campus and provides breakfast and lunchmenus, beverages and snacks, Monday through Friday whenclass is in session during the academic year. Daily specialsand a limited selection <strong>of</strong> vegetarian options are available.Menus and daily specials can be found on the UM-<strong>Helena</strong>website and in the UM-<strong>Helena</strong> News, the campus’ weeklyelectronic bulletin. The food service accepts cash, credit cards,and checks made payable to UM-<strong>Helena</strong> for the amount <strong>of</strong>purchase only. Vending machines are located in the <strong>Student</strong>Center at the Donaldson Campus and in the <strong>Student</strong> Loungeon the second floor at the Airport Campus.Health Insurance<strong>Student</strong>s enrolled in four or more credits each semester arerequired to have and maintain medical insurance whileattending UM-<strong>Helena</strong>. The college makes coverage availablefor students through the Montana University System <strong>Student</strong>Insurance Plan (MUSSIP) provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield<strong>of</strong> Montana (BCBSMT). The insurance plan is available to allstudents taking a minimum <strong>of</strong> four credits. The insuranceplan provides major medical and prescription coverageincluding but not limited to hospitalizations, outpatientsurgery, and emergency services. The plan does not covervision, dental, routine exams or contraceptive management.High school students participating in dual enrollmentprograms are not eligible for the insurance plan.The student insurance plan is elected or waived duringregistration for the fall and spring semesters and studentsmust purchase or refuse the coverage each semester by the15th day <strong>of</strong> instruction. <strong>Student</strong>s having major medicalinsurance coverage may waive the student insurance plan.Coverage begins on the first day <strong>of</strong> the semester providedthat payment is made as required within the enrollmentperiod. <strong>Student</strong>s who elect coverage and then withdrawfor nonmedical reasons or drop below 4 credits beforethe 15th day <strong>of</strong> instruction will receive a full refund <strong>of</strong> thepremium cost for that semester. There are no refunds afterthe 15th day <strong>of</strong> instruction. <strong>Student</strong>s who withdraw ordrop below 4 credits after the 15th day <strong>of</strong> instruction willbe fully charged for and covered by the student insuranceplan for the duration <strong>of</strong> the policy period applicable toeach semester. <strong>Student</strong>s will not be allowed to enroll in thestudent insurance plan after the 15th class day unless pro<strong>of</strong>is furnished that the student was dropped from his or herother insurance coverage during the 30 days immediatelypreceding the date <strong>of</strong> the request to join the student insuranceplan. In such cases, the premium will not be prorated, and thecost will be the same as the beginning <strong>of</strong> the semester. Plancoverage and premium costs are published each academicyear in the MUSSIP campus brochure and on the UM-<strong>Helena</strong>and BCBSMT websites. Apartment rentalsin the <strong>Helena</strong> area average $500 - $800 per one/two bedroomapartment. The <strong>College</strong>’s housing brochure <strong>of</strong>fers some tipson finding housing as well as helpful contact informationfor newspapers, apartment finders, housing complexes, andchild care. A Housing Bulletin Board is also maintained inEnrollment Services at the Donaldson Campus. <strong>Student</strong>s areencouraged to consult the classified advertising section <strong>of</strong>the <strong>Helena</strong> Independent Record which can be accessed online atwww.helenair.com.LibraryThe library, located on the Donaldson Campus, providesresources and access to information in support <strong>of</strong> the<strong>College</strong>’s programs. A variety <strong>of</strong> media formats and access is<strong>of</strong>fered to complement instruction and encourage learning inall program areas, as well as to provide reading and listeningmaterials for enjoyment and lifelong learning.The library houses over 9,000 titles, two daily newspapers,and many magazines reflecting the diversity <strong>of</strong> programs atthe <strong>College</strong>. The virtual library website (http://umhelena.edu/library) provides online access to articles fromperiodicals (magazines, journals, newspapers), referencesources, bestsellers, and audiobooks. All electronic resourcesare available from home or other <strong>of</strong>f-campus locations.In addition to the collection, the library provides computers/printers-with Internet access, group and quiet studyareas, a photocopier, and a reference section. Pr<strong>of</strong>essionallibrary staff are available for individual assistance or groupinstruction.The library has reciprocal borrowing agreements with locallibraries and access to libraries throughout Montana andother states via the Montana Library Network and WorldCat,a nationwide database <strong>of</strong> library collections. Free interlibraryloan is available on request.Montana Campus CompactUM-<strong>Helena</strong> is a member in good standing <strong>of</strong> The MontanaCampus Compact.
