Course DescriptionsWLDG217 Advanced BlueprintCredits: 2Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingThis course will instruct students how to draw and readsophisticated blueprints using AutoCAD format. Instructionswill also include taking general arrangement drawings andbreaking down into shop drawings. Students will learn howto properly dimension, detail, and include weld symbols intoshop drawings.WLDG225 Structural FabricationCredits: 2Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingThis course is designed to give students the ability to lay out andfabricate various components used in the structural constructionof buildings and infrastructure. Students will lay out, drill, and cut to length columns and beams according to blueprintspecifications. Instruction will also be given on how to layoutand fabricate base plates, gusset supports, and brackets usedto support steel structure. In addition, students will fabricatea stairway and adjoining handrail using proper rise and runstandards and dimensions.WLDG230 Field Welding and ProcessesCredits: 2Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingThis course is designed to introduce the students into a fieldwelder’s environment. The students will become knowledgeablein the different weld applications presented in the field and thewelding variables that can occur. In this course the studentswill learn to properly set up and maintain portable weldingpower sources, suitcase wire feeders, cutting systems, andother field equipment. Students will be taught safety in thefield environment.WLDG243 Advanced Metal Fabrication ICredits: 6Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingMetal Fabrication will focus on the planning and execution ofprojects using the knowledge and skills already acquired duringthe first year of the welding program. Students will apply theseskills in a shop-like atmosphere working directly with customers, completing repairs, modifications and new construction. Withthis work the students will prepare blueprints, using handdrawing techniques along with AutoCAD to complete morecomplicated drawings.WLDG244 Advanced Metal Fabrication IICredits: 4Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingStudents will learn to lay out and fabricate various ventilationcomponents found in industrial settings. This course will givestudents instruction in laying out, cutting and fabricatingelbows, square to round, cones, offsets, and laterals. Thesecomponents will be fabricated using shears, bending breaks, forming rolls, and hydraulic punches. In addition students willweld out and assemble ventilation components according toblueprint specifications.WLDG245 Metal Fabrication Design and ConstructionCredits: 5Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingThis course is designed to challenge students on morecomplex fabrication and repair job assignments. Students willsystematically plan out, order material, and perform repair andfabrication work orders. Students will select the proper weldingprocedures and processes for each job assignment. Althoughinstructors will oversee the job, students will be challenged totake on a leadership role with less supervision. Students willexperience working with others in a team-like atmosphere whileaccomplishing specific goals.WLDG255 CNC Burn Table Programming and OperationCredits: 3Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingIntroduction to computer numerically controlled machines withan emphasis on programming, setup, and use in plasma-cuttingburn tables. Students will use the Shop Data Systems HVACprogram to create duct work transitions to be cut on the CNCburn table. AutoCad is used to create specialty parts for burntable cutting. As a final step, all parts are programmed throughthe use of OneCNC programming by the students to preparethe G-codes used by the CNC burn table.WLDG265 MSHA Safety TrainingCredits: 1Prerequisites: Completion of Certificate of Applied Sciencein WeldingA major part of the welding industry involves working in themining industry. This course will cover required safety rulesgoverning work performed in the mining industry. Uponsatisfactory completion of this course, students will be certifiedto work at mine and quarry sites. In addition, students willreceive certification in C.P.R.WRIT080 Building Basic Writing SkillsCredits: 3Prerequisites: noneA review of fundamental writing skills, this course focuseson sentences and paragraphs. Students will develop shortcompositions that demonstrate control of the conventions ofstandard written English, sentence structure, and sequenceof ideas.
