Admission Requirements and ProceduresEnrollment ServicesEnrollment Services provides assistance to new and readmittingstudents. Prospective students in search <strong>of</strong> anapplication, class schedule, information about courses andprograms <strong>of</strong> study, admissions guidance, or who want tocheck the status <strong>of</strong> a submitted application may contactEnrollment Services at 406-444-6826 or 800-241-4882, ext.6826. Enrollment Services is located near the main entrance tothe Donaldson Campus (Room 101).Application ProcessOpen admission allows any student who might benefit froma UM-<strong>Helena</strong> education the opportunity to enroll in classes.Applications for admission are accepted and processed in theorder they are received. The deadline for priority admissionconsideration is one month prior to the start <strong>of</strong> each semesterand complete applications are due by the initial fee payment/finalization date before the start <strong>of</strong> each semester. <strong>Student</strong>sare encouraged to apply early, as financial aid is <strong>of</strong>feredand programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.Acceptance for admission to the college does not guaranteeacceptance or placement in any particular program.Prospective students should review the Program Offeringssection <strong>of</strong> the catalog for specific program requirements.Falsification or willful suppression by a student <strong>of</strong> anyinformation called for on an application for admission maybe grounds for cancellation or denial <strong>of</strong> admission.First-Time Admission<strong>Student</strong>s who plan to earn a degree or certificate, or enrollin seven or more credits in any one semester, and havecompleted no more than 11 college credits, need to submitthe following information:1. A completed and signed application for admission.2. A $30 nonrefundable application fee.3. Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> immunization if born after December 31, 1956;pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> age if born before January 1, 1957.(See Immunization section, next page.)4. Official high school transcripts received from anaccredited high school with a graduation date posted,a copy <strong>of</strong> GED scores, or COMPASS test scoresdemonstrating ability to benefit. Ability to benefit testsare required <strong>of</strong> students who do not have accredited highschool diplomas or recognized equivalents such as GEDsin order to be eligible to receive financial aid under anyTitle IV Higher Education Act program. The tests, chosenfrom a list approved by the United States Department<strong>of</strong> Education, demonstrate the students’ ability tobenefit from the training <strong>of</strong>fered. Home schooled andnon-accredited high school graduates may be requiredto provide GED scores or to meet ability to benefitrequirements. Questions regarding ability to benefitshould be directed to Enrollment Services.5. Official college transcripts, if applicable.Transfer Admission<strong>Student</strong>s who plan to earn a degree or certificate, or enrollin seven or more credits in any one semester, and who havecompleted twelve or more college credits with a cumulativegrade point average <strong>of</strong> 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, need to submit thefollowing information:1. A completed and signed application for admission.2. A $30 nonrefundable application fee.3. Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> immunization if born after December 31, 1956;pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> age if born before January 1, 1957.(See Immunization section, next page.)4. Official college transcripts from all college(s) previouslyattended.Non-Degree AdmissionNon-Degree admission is designed for students seekingpersonal enrichment who do not plan to earn a degreeor certificate, do not seek financial aid, and who enroll insix credits or fewer in any one semester. The deadline fornon-degree admission/registration is the last day to addclasses each semester. The following information needs to besubmitted:1. A completed and signed Non-Degree Registration Form.2. A $30 nonrefundable application fee.3. Demonstrated completion <strong>of</strong> any prerequisites ornecessary placement testing.Readmission<strong>Student</strong>s who have previously attended UM-<strong>Helena</strong> asdegree-seeking students must reapply for admission if theyhave been absent from the college for one or more academicsemesters (excluding summer). Readmitted students mustfollow current catalog requirements upon return. Theprocedure for readmission to UM-<strong>Helena</strong> is as follows:1. Submit a completed and signed Application forReadmission.2. Submit <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from all college(s) attendedsince last attending UM-<strong>Helena</strong>, if applicable.3. If readmission follows academic suspension fromUM-<strong>Helena</strong>, applicants must submit an academic planwith their application for readmission. Readmission isconditional upon approval <strong>of</strong> the academic plan by theOffice <strong>of</strong> Academic Affairs.Application FeeA $30 nonrefundable application fee is required <strong>of</strong> all firsttimeapplicants to The University <strong>of</strong> Montana campuses,including The University <strong>of</strong> Montana, The University <strong>of</strong>Montana <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong>, Montana Tech, MontanaTech <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong>, The University <strong>of</strong> Montana -Western, and The University <strong>of</strong> Montana – <strong>Helena</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Technology</strong>.
