Determining the facilities required for developmentover the next <strong>10</strong> <strong>years</strong>Over the next <strong>10</strong> <strong>years</strong>, the actual sporting needs of the <strong>Brimbank</strong> community willcontinue to evolve as the population, individual sports, sports clubs, facilitystandards and community expectations change.The future facility development needs estimates provided in the tables below areindicative only. The intent is that <strong>Brimbank</strong>’s sporting facility needs should continueto be refined over time through detailed strategic planning which takes intoconsideration the resources (funding, land, etc.) available to <strong>Council</strong>.The estimates for the number of sports grounds, pitches and courts that arerequired in <strong>Brimbank</strong> have been made in consideration of the following factors:the key sports played or to be developed in <strong>Brimbank</strong> (soccer, AFL, cricket,baseball, softball, lawn bowls, rugby, hockey, athletics, tennis, netball, basketball,badminton, volleyball, table tennis, futsal).the number of clubs, teams and members in each of these sportsthe number of teams and/or players a sports ground, pitch or surface can supportthe principle that there will be no reduction in facility provision for any sporta common sense approach has been taken in making reasonable estimates – acomparison between what currently exists and the estimated need gives anindication of the shortfall in facilities for soccer, AFL, cricket, baseball, softball,rugby, hockey, lawn bowls and athletics. These estimates are conservative giventhe lower than average sport participation by <strong>Brimbank</strong> residents.estimates for tennis, netball, basketball, table tennis, badminton and volleyball aremade on population based estimates. Given the lower than average sportparticipation by <strong>Brimbank</strong> residents, these numbers are likely to be anoverestimate.Based on the trends analysis completed as part of this plan, the following tablesidentify the estimated current and projected future needs for sporting facilities.SPORTS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN39
