Sydenham Park and Bon Thomas Reserve have been suggested as potential sites. However neither of these reserves have good access to public transport and BonThomas is located in a residential area. Further, given the current distribution ofsporting facilities across the City, a regional multi-sports facility would be bestsituated in the south of the municipality.Sunshine Energy Park is the only site in the south of the municipality that has theattributes to accommodate a regional multi-sports facility. It is suitably sized andaccessible located near the Western Ring Road, Western Highway and bus and trainroutes. An investigation into the feasibility of developing a regional multi-sports facility atthe Energy Park Site has been undertaken. The investigation confirmed that the sitecould accommodate the facility. The costs for developing the facility and theproposed timing for works are included in the Facility Development Plan (Refer toSection 7).Strategy 1.4: Develop partnership agreements withneighbouring municipalities and local organisationsThis Plan provides opportunities for Council to work in partnership on essentialprojects to create new facilities and to redevelop existing sporting and recreationinfrastructure.Priority actionsCreate partnerships with local schoolsSports facilities at local schools could potentially be used as training andcompetition venues for sports clubs and community groups in Brimbank. The benefits of developing partnerships with local schools include:enabling Council to cost-effectively provide a larger amount of training andcompetition venues for sports clubs and groupsbuilding relationships between local sports clubs and schools and providing an easypathway for students to join clubsstrengthening the relationships between Council and schools in Brimbankprovide a cost effective way to deal with ongoing maintenance and facilitydevelopment requirements to suit both Council and local schools.SPORTS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN49
