Strategy 2.12: FutsalFutsal (or modified soccer) continues to grow in popularity. The FFV has establishedthe Melbourne Futsal League to provide players with another soccer option. Futsalis played on a court about 1.5 times the size of a basketball court. It is mainlyplayed indoors, but can be held outdoors. <strong>Brimbank</strong> has one futsal group located atSt Albans Secondary College. There are two other groups in the WesternMetropolitan Area, at Caroline Springs and Braybrook.Priority actions<strong>Council</strong> will give consideration to the facility needs of futsal when planning new orredeveloped indoor recreation facilities such as the Keilor Basketball & NetballStadium.Strategy 2.13: Table tennisParticipation in table tennis across Victoria is reasonably stable at 3,500 registeredplayers. The sport is popular in Asian countries, particularly China, Japan, Malaysia,Indonesia and Vietnam, but communities in Melbourne are not playing in bignumbers.<strong>Brimbank</strong> has one association operating from the West Sunshine CommunityCentre. Forty-two teams participate in the midweek pennant competitions. Thecentre is operating at capacity and requires additional space.Priority actions<strong>Council</strong> will give consideration to the facility needs of table tennis when planningnew or redeveloped indoor recreation facilities and by securing use of otherfacilities.SPORTS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN61
