Strategy 2.14: VolleyballVolleyball is a low profile sport in Victoria. It is slowly increasing in participation,particularly in junior competitions. Globally, volleyball is a very popular sport,particularly in Europe and Asia. Volleyball Victoria claims that volleyball is thesecond most popular sport in the world, after soccer.There are at least six small volleyball competitions (traditional and beach) runningin the Western Suburbs. The traditional competitions are held at the Werribee Sportand Fitness Centre, RecWest in Braybrook and the Footscray YMCA. Beachvolleyball is held at the Westgate Recreation Centre and Action Indoor <strong>Sports</strong>Centre in Footscray. There are no competitions in <strong>Brimbank</strong>.Priority actions<strong>Council</strong> will give consideration to providing facilities for volleyball when planningnew or redeveloping existing indoor recreation facilities, if community interest inthis sport grows.SPORTS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN62
