The preferred facility model for netball is 4–6 courts at one location.Council will also work with the local schools where there are available courts toinitiate training opportunities for local associations.Strategy 2.6: BasketballBrimbank has two basketball associations, one in the north (Keilor) and another inthe south (Sunshine). Combined, the associations have 429 teams. Overallparticipation in basketball is steadily increasing, particularly in junior age groups.Over the past four years, junior participation in the Brimbank area has increased by4%. The Keilor Basketball Association (KBA) is one of the largest associations in theWestern suburbs.Both associations are unable to take on new teams or players as their facilities areat capacity. Teams are currently forced to travel outside the municipality to playfixtured games.It is important to note however that demand estimates may be high as they arebased on population based estimates.Priority actionsExtend the Keilor Basketball & Netball Stadium to include an additional 3 courts,upgraded change rooms and toilet facilities.Strategy 2.7: AthleticsThere are three athletics clubs in Brimbank using two formal athletics tracks and afootball oval. Athletics Victoria has indicated that participation in athletics hasremained relatively stable in recent years and no significant rises or declines areanticipated.
