Priority actionsThe carrying capacity of existing courts should be increased. New courts arerequired to meet demand as outlined in Section 5 of this Plan.Strategy 2.4: SoccerBrimbank has 15 soccer clubs – 12 community and 3 private clubs. According to theFootball Federation Victoria (FFV) membership database, player numbers inBrimbank increased by 29% between 2006 and 2010, although it is noted that thenumbers include anyone who has played one game. It is anticipated that numberswill continue to grow in the short to medium term. The existing soccer facilities inBrimbank are already overloaded. Increasing demand will result in many facilitiesbeing severely overloaded. There is a large demand from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups inthe southern districts of Brimbank for soccer facilities. These groups currently playinformal matches but may in time want to play competition soccer. It’s likely thatgroups will request regular access to playing fields and pavilions, adding to the loadon existing facilities. Council’s Leisure Services Department is working with thevarious cultural groups within the community to manage the development of teamsand clubs and find facilities to accommodate their needs now and into the future.Priority actionsUpgraded and new soccer facilities based on the strategies identified in Section 5,will be required based on projected need. Any new or redeveloped pavilions willneed to be designed to suit all age groups and both genders.Strategy 2.5: NetballBrimbank has two netball associations, one in the North (Keilor) and one centrallylocated (St Albans). Both associations are unable to sign up any new teams, astheir facilities are operating at capacity. There are 12 courts available at localschools throughout Brimbank. Seven of these courts are being used by localassociations.EDFL teams in Brimbank are looking to field netball teams. If this occurs, the clubswill want access to netball courts.Brimbank residents are also using netball venues located in neighbouringmunicipalities. These venues include the new Western Bulldogs Indoor Stadium atWhitten Oval, the RecWest Indoor Sports Facility in Braybrook and facilities inCaroline Springs.SPORTS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN57
