UNDP/GEF - lesson sharingFor lesson sharing this project be linked up with other (especially GEF)integrated coral conservation projects within the region or other similar coralreef related project globally.6.2.2. <strong>NRE</strong> – relevant agencies incorporate management plan andpoliciesThe Management Plan and Policies should be made available to all relevantagencies (including the HICC, <strong>NRE</strong>, MoTOUR, MOSTI, EPU and AttorneyGeneral etc) for incorporation into their own plans and work programmes.6.2.3. MoTour – biodiversity focus incorporate a deeper understandingof the marine realm especially fragility of coralsBased on the priorities of the Tenth <strong>Malaysia</strong> Plan and the EconomicTransformation Programme for biodiversity related tourism, the MoTourshould widen its focus from terrestrially based tourism to include marinebased tourism.Brand marketing of <strong>Malaysia</strong> includes a strong natural environment focuswith many images of the marine environment. To support this brandpositioning a good understanding of the marine environment and the fragilityof corals is required. The brand could be undermined through inappropriatemarketing e.g. large scale mass tourism resort development in a fragileecosystem with sensitive corals.6.2.4. <strong>NRE</strong>/DMPM and MoTour – align policies and practices forcertification programmeThe relevant federal agencies align their policies and practises to enable acoherent shared approach to certification and training programmes for theprivate sector e.g. eco tourism and nature (including marine) guidecertification.6.2.5. DMPM – success of marine parks depends on the health ofecosystemsMarine Protected areas monitoring and analysis of the health of theecosystems, to make informed management decisions is necessary andaccordingly management must understand and recognise this is essentialfor the integrity of the MPAs.38
