If from thesimilarity of outward configuration, we passto contemplate the brain, we find here alsogreat similarity of structure. And indeed ifthe relations of muscle, nerve, and brain beas already indicated, it follows from the resemblancesof outward form that there mustbe a greater resemblance between the brainof man and the brain of the monkey and ofthe ape, than between the human brain andthat of any other animal known to us. Andso it proves to be. The brain of the monkeyhas its subdivisions and convolut~ions very similarto those of the human brain, only theconvolutions are simpler in arrangement. Inoutline it is deficient only in the diminishedbulk of the front part, and also the back partof the organ; but in its expansion it .resemblesthe human brain in this, that to the rearit spreads back over the cerebellum, so as tocover it.
