Nº 320S Basic OperationAll slave chains:• Must include compatible Mark Levinson components. TheNº 320S is compatible with the components listed on page 2-9.Refer to the appropriate documentation for Link compatibilityinformation about other Mark Levinson components.• Must connect components in a certain order to preventcommunication from terminating. In general, componentsmust be linked as follows: digital audio processor, to digitaltransport, to Nº 320S, to power amplifier.NoteLink communication port names differ among Mark Levinsoncomponents. The Link communication port names used inthe table below correspond with the component listed in theComponent column.ComponentDigital AudioProcessor*(e.g., Nº 360S)DigitalTransport*(e.g., Nº 37)Preamplifier(e.g., Nº 320S)PowerAmplifier(e.g., Nº 432)Requirements & Connections• Serves as the master component in the slave chain.• Maximum of one per slave chain.• Connect the master communication port on the digital audio processor to the slave in communicationport on the first digital transport. If no digital transports are included in the slave chain, connectthe master communication port on the digital audio processor to the slave in communication porton the Nº 320S.• No maximum number per slave chain.• Must be positioned after the digital audio processor and before the Nº 320S and power amplifier(s).• Connect the slave in communication port on the first digital transport to the master communicationport on the digital audio processor. Digital transports CANNOT be included in a slave chain thatdoes not include a compatible Mark Levinson digital audio processor.• Connect multiple digital transports in a “daisy chain” using slave out-to-slave in communicationport connections. Connect the slave out communication port on the last digital transport to theslave in communication port on the Nº 320S.• No maximum number per slave chain.• Connect the slave in communication port on the Nº 320S to the slave out communication port onthe last digital transport. If no digital transports are included in the slave chain, connect slave incommunication port on the Nº 320S to the master communication port on the digital audioprocessor.• Connect the communication port on the Nº 320S to the input communication port onthe first power amplifier.• Maximum of six per slave chain.• Connect the input communication port on the first power amplifier to the communicationport on the Nº 320S.• Connect up to six power amplifiers in a “daisy chain” using input-to- controlcommunication port connections. The control communication port on the last poweramplifier is not connected.2-11* The Nº 39 and Nº 390S CD Processors can serve as either a digital audio processor or a digital transport in a slave chain.(continued)
