Sign Definitions1. Monument Sign: A sign mounted directlyon a solid base rather than attached to apole or other support.2. Gateway Sign: Gateway signs are usedto signify a special place and indicatewhen one has entered a distinct area.Gateway signs can be monument ortraditional freestanding styles, incorporatea message center, be combined withother transportation structures such as anoverpass, or be incorporated into a gatewaypark design. Gateway signs should belarger in scale than other directional signs,succinct in text, and attractive to bothpedestrians and motorists.3. Pedestrian Blade Sign: A pedestrian bladesign provides directional informationand business identification to passingpedestrians to help people find their wayaround.4. Directory Sign: A directory signprovides information about a place. Itusually contains a location map and textinformation.5. Vehicular Directional Sign: A vehiculardirectional sign provides drivinginformation for motorists. Parking lotidentification signs should be combinedwith vehicular directional signs.6. Banner Sign: A logo or design placed on alightweight material that can move with thewind.7. Hanging Sign: A sign suspended from asupport and projected from the buildingwall.8. Window Sign: A sign designed for viewfrom the outside and painted on or attachedto the inside of a commercial window.9.
