Here, Asat refersto <strong>the</strong> body and also to opposite pairs(Dvandvas) like heat and cold, pleasureand pain etc. These ‘Asat’ objects haveno existence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir own. They are allproducts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mind imagined due topast c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>ing. The body is thus asuperimpositi<strong>on</strong> like <strong>the</strong> dream objectsseen in a dream. If a pot is made up <strong>of</strong>clay, pot is <strong>on</strong>ly a transformati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> clay. Itis <strong>the</strong> clay which was its material causeand it <strong>on</strong>ly sustains <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> a pot. So apot is called ‘asat’. Pot is a name given toa transformed form <strong>of</strong> clay. The pot has notrue existence as such.By ‘Sat’ is meant <strong>the</strong> final truth i.e. <strong>the</strong>Atman (Self).
