A pers<strong>on</strong> cultivatesfirst <strong>the</strong> discriminative knowledge that <strong>the</strong>body and <strong>the</strong> world (<strong>of</strong> which <strong>the</strong> body is apart) are n<strong>on</strong>- self and perishable while <strong>the</strong>Self al<strong>on</strong>e is <strong>the</strong> reality and is imperishable.“The Self remains ever even after <strong>the</strong> bodyperishes. The disc<strong>on</strong>tent is due to <strong>the</strong> wr<strong>on</strong>gidentity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eternal Self with <strong>the</strong> perishablebody. The body is a necessary adjunct <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ego.
