This attachmentis a result <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ego i.e., identifying<strong>on</strong>eself with <strong>the</strong> body. This attachmentitself is a great evil or defect (as perSankara) and this can be c<strong>on</strong>quered when<strong>on</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> ego is eliminated.“If you give up ‘I’ and ‘Mine’ instead,all are given up at a stroke. The very seed<strong>of</strong> possessi<strong>on</strong> is lost. Thus <strong>the</strong> evil isnipped in <strong>the</strong> bud or crushed in <strong>the</strong> germitself.
