BLACK IMMIGRANTS & REFUGEES,COMMUNITY SURVEYIn 2014, the Urban League of Portland conducted a small community survey of134 <strong>Black</strong> immigrant and refugee <strong>Oregon</strong>ians in an effort to go beyond the limiteddata that are available. The survey was limited in scope and illuminated many ofthe challenges of high-quality data collection. First, it was availableonly in English with the intentionof working with communitytranslators—which proved morechallenging than anticipated dueto lack of funding and communitytranslators. Consequently,the results are biased towardimmigrants able to read and write inEnglish.Future surveys/data collectionshould be translated into one ormore languages spoken by Africanimmigrants.
