Inparticular, girls may be forced into the sextrade in exchange for shelter and protection,due to lack of adult or family guidance tohelp them protect themselves.Table 17.7 shows the percentage ofchildren who have had sexual intercoursebefore the age of 15 according to OVCstatus. The table shows that early sexualintercourse is more frequent among girls ifthey are OVCs than if they are non-OVCs.Among boys, however, the pattern isreversed.
