Landscape Architect
Rosa Grena Kliass received a degree in architecture from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1955. While at
USP, she concentrated her own studies in the area of Landscape Architecture. Since the 1960's she has been
dedicated to the professional fields of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. Rosa received her Masters
Degree in 1989 with the completion of her thesis titled "Evolution of the Urban Parks in the city of São Paulo".
In 1970 Rosa established her office of Landscape Planning and Projects "Rosa Grena Kliass Paisagismo
Planejamento e Projetos Ltda". She went on to help in the establishment of KRAF Environmental Planning in
1986. Rosa has been associated with numerous governmental institutions as well, these include:
- Landscape Consultant for the Secretary of Economics and Planning State of São Paulo.
- Landscape Consultant for the Department of Water and Electrical Energy (DAEE).
- Landscape Consultant for the Municipality of São José dos Campos, São Paulo.
- Landscape Consultant for the Metropolitan Agency for Housing (COHAB), São Paulo.
- Director of Planning for the Secretary of Planning within Municipality, São Paulo (SEMPLA).
- Council Member to the Administration of CETESB (Companhia de Tecnologia e Saneamento Ambiental).
In 1976 Rosa established the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP). She has held the presidential
position for this organization for various terms in 1980, 1983, 1989, 1991 and 2000. Rosa has been closely
affiliated with the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), being the ABAP delegate, and in
1978 she was the coordinator of the XVI IFLA World Congress in Salvador, Bahia. She has been for one term the
Secretary of the Western Region (Americas) and Vice President for the Western Region from 2000 to 2002.
Rosa has been involved in numerous seminars, meetings, and congresses, both in Brazil and abroad. She has
participated in the organization of the First National Meeting of Landscape Architecture in 1981 and the
National Meeting of Landscape Professors in 1982; both of these events were held in Brazil.
She also has taught in the field of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at the following educational institutions:
- Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Mackenzie University São Paulo; Adjunct Professor, 1974-1977.
- Catholic University of Paraná, School of Architecture and Urbanism, Curitiba, Paraná, Professor responsible
for the program course in Landscape Architecture, 1980-1981; Coordinating Professor for the program course
of Specialization Architecture, 1982.
- Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism Brás Cubas, Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo; Professor responsible for the
program course of Landscape Specialization, 1981.
In the firm Rosa Grena Kliass Arquitetura Paisagística, Planejamento e Projetos Ltda., since 1971, Rosa has one
of the most significant professional works in Landscape Architecture in the country.
While directing her professional efforts towards Environmental and Landscape Planning, one of her premier
designs was within the Master Plan for the city of Curitiba in 1965. Continuing in this field, she has completed
numerous other plans for Brazilian cities:
"The Green Areas of Recreation for the Municipality of Sao Paulo" in 1968;
"Plan of Green Areas and Open Spaces of Salvador” in 1978;
"Environmental Quality Master Plan" for the Urban Master Plan of the Municipality of São Paulo in 1984;
“Urban Landscape Plan for São Luís, Maranhão” in 2003;
In the field of Regional Planning, Rosa has been the coordinator of the project titled "Recognizable
Characteristics of the Valley of Paraíba" (CODIVAP) in 1971, "Preservations of Special Areas for Barra Bonita and
the Surrounding Slopes" in 1975 and the "Preservation and Tourism Plan of Sao Bento do Sul, Campo Alegre, and
Rio Negrinho", in State of Santa Catarina in 1988.
Rosa has designed well over one hundred projects. Among her most significant one is able to cite the following
examples:
