Bassa, the ancient Renaissance residence of the Dukes of Urbino.<br />

In 1992, on the occasion of the bicentenary, he published a book on the Church of SS. Giovanni Battista and<br />

Floriano at Isola di Fano, where he is now supervising restoration work based on his own project.<br />

His professional office is currently involved in the supervision and management of civil architecture and land<br />

planning projects as well as green planning, including several intervention in the provinces of Ancona and<br />

Pesaro-Urbino.<br />

A member of the jury in international architectural planning competitions, he is presently Chairman of the<br />

Register of Architects, Urban Planners, Landscape Architects and Preservation Experts of the province of Pesaro<br />

and Urbino, in charge of the Land Management Division of the Municipality of Urbania, a member of the<br />

Landscape Committee according to Legislative Decree 42/2004.<br />

È laureata in Garden Design all’università di Reading. Ha progettato e realizzato giardini<br />

a Londra e nel sud dell’Inghilterra. Si è trasferita in Italia cinque anni fa e continua<br />

a progettare giardini sia in Inghilterra e Irlanda che in Italia.<br />

Nel suo lavoro è stata ispirata dei giardini storici italiani, e dai giardini di Beth Chatto<br />

a Elmsted Market, Essex e lo stile inconfondibile del paesaggista olandese Piet<br />

Oudolf.<br />

Per la campagna viterbese vorrebbe ricreare le stesse emozioni suggerite dalla natura<br />

con l’uso accorto di piante erbacee perenni e graminacee ornamentali piantate in<br />

gruppi irregolari. I giardini sembrano così in perpetuo movimento e se nella bella stagione<br />

con ardite associazioni di colori diventano dipinti impressionisti, d’inverno,<br />

quando si seccano o prendono la brina acquistano una consistenza scultorea, mostrando un deciso carattere architettonico.<br />

Per Christina è importante che molte delle piante siano profumate, capaci di attirare le farfalle, di disseminarsi<br />

da sole e di resistere bene al caldo e al secco. E se le prime tre doti fanno sì che il giardino sia un luogo vivo,<br />

fatto di voli, canti e profumi, la quarta è destinata a fare la differenza. Infatti, lei sostiene, che è inutile incaponirsi<br />

a scegliere piante che vanno bagnate in maniera smodata, anche se la disponibilità d’acqua non sia un problema.<br />

Meglio preferire specie e varietà altrettanto belle, ma anche capaci di resistere al caldo e al secco, rispettando<br />

l’ambiente.<br />

Con i cambiamenti climatici le piante scelte devono essere eticamente sostenibili. In giardino questo significa<br />

seguire la natura e, quindi, tenere conto del clima, dell’esposizione, del terreno, dalla luce o dell’ombra, della<br />

disponibilità oppure della carenza d’acqua. Questa è la competenza della paesaggista comunque sempre senza<br />

trascurare mai i desideri e le necessità dei clienti.<br />

Attualmente sta realizzando il suo giardino nella terra Etrusca di Viterbo nel Lazio. Lei spera di progettare un<br />

giardino fiorito con poca acqua.<br />

Landscape Architect, Garden Designer<br />

She obtained her degree at Reading University. She has designed and constructed gardens in London and the South<br />

of England. She moved to Italy 5 years ago where she has continued to design gardens both in England, Ireland<br />

and here in Italy.<br />

Her work is inspired by historic, Italian gardens and by the planting style of Beth Chatto’s garden at Elmsted<br />

Market, Essex and the incomparable naturalistic style of the Dutch designer Piet Oudolf.<br />

For the Viterbo countryside she would like to recreate the emotions suggested by nature with the careful use of<br />

perennials and ornamental grasses planted in irregular drifts. The gardens feel as if they are in perpetual movement<br />

both during summer, with careful colour combinations that seem like impressionist paintings; and in winter<br />

when the plants form skeletons covered in frost or that become sculptural demonstrating their architectural<br />

forms.<br />

For Christina it is important that many of the plants are perfumed with the capacity to attract butterflies and<br />

bees, self-seed and are plants adapted to the conditions. If the first three contribute to a garden full of flight,<br />

sound and perfume, it is the forth that is destined to make the difference. She maintains that it is useless to<br />

select plants that have to be continually irrigated even if water is available. It is better to choose plant species<br />

and varieties that are adapted to the climate and therefore respect the environment as well as also being beautiful.<br />

With climate change the plants chosen must be sustainable. In the garden this means looking at the surrounding<br />

countryside, taking note of the climate, the soil, the light or shade and the availability of water and its cost. This<br />

is the duty of the designer while always responding to clients needs and wishes.<br />

At present she is designing and planting her own garden near Viterbo. She hopes to create a garden full of flowers<br />

and colour requiring very little irrigation.<br />
