Beijing Tsinghua Urban Planning and Design Institute Planning and Design Branch of Landscape Architecture
Beijing Tsinghua Urban Planning and Design Institute was founded in 1993. The Branch of Landscape
Architecture was established in 2003 and is headed by Professor Architect Hu Jie. This branch is composed of
an energetic team of Chinese and international professionals with notable projects at home and abroad. The
international expertise fostered in the office has resulted in creative and technological advances to the practice
of landscape architecture in China.
Professor Architect Hu Jie
Hu Jie, ASLA, Associate Professor of the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, was graduated from
Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Engineering ( P. R. China ) with Bachelor degree of Architecture in 1983,
and Beijing Forestry University ( P. R. China ) with Master degree of Landscape Architecture in 1986, and
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA with Master degree of Landscape Architecture in 1995 majoring
Land Resource Planning. He had been working in Sasaki Inc. in USA for about 8 years after his graduation from
Illinois, participating large-scale urban planning projects including International Competition for Master Plan of
Beijing Olympic Green, Master Plan for Oriental Sun City (Beijing, China) and Master Plan for Huijing New Town
( Guangzhou, China). Hu Jie passed license exam at ASLA Boston Chapter in 1999, and became licensed landscape
architect in Mass. USA.
Hu Jie came back to China in 2003 and has been teaching in Tsinghua University from then on. He is responsible
for 2 subjects including Landscape Technology and Landscape Design Studio. Besides teaching, Hu Jie is also
the director of Branch of Landscape Architecture, Beijing Tsinghua Urban Planning and Design Institute. He is
in charge of the design of Tieling New City Urban Planning and Landscape Design and Lotus Lake Wetland Park
Landscape Design.
