WALK THE WALK
When handsome “youthful and ruddy”
David pledged to fight six-foot-six Goliath of Gath
for King Saul, the king thought that he was nuts:
“You cannot go up against this Philistine and fight
with him, for you are only a youth, while he has
been a warrior from his youth.” Undeterred with
this bit of generational prejudice, David simply
replied: “Your servant used to tend his father’s
sheep, and whenever a lion or bear came to carry
off a sheep from the flock, I would go after it and
attack it and rescue the prey from its mouth. If it
attacked me, I would seize it by the jaw, strike it,
and kill it.” So much for the timid little shepherd
boy.
We all know how the story ended. David
used his trusty sling to embed a stone into his
opponent’s forehead rendering the much larger
individual dead – at least as dead as one could be
known without a modern medical examiner
present – and finished his adversary off with a
beheading from Goliath’s own sword (which
effectively eliminated the need for any modern
medical examiner). David went on to become king,
chose whatever wife he wanted (even if she was
already married at the time), and fathered a son
whose eventual wealth would make any parent
damn proud of him.
There are several morals in this tale which
apply directly to you. First, you don’t need the best
technology available to defeat your enemy. You
just need the most effective technology available
