For those with covert needs, Armament
Services International offers a “Silent Fifty” rifle
firing a 12.7 x 48 mm round through an integrated
sound suppressor. Apparently, it is a very gentle
“fifty” to shoot and offers a range of cartridge
options to meet specific requirements though,
obviously, the armor-piercing rounds are a no-no
within the U.S. Still, the availability of a large
caliber rifle firing a bullet at 980 feet/second offers
tremendous value in its dead silence, especially if
achieved with an integrated silencer that keeps the
entire package at a convenient length.
One may question the need for just such a
weapon but one generally does not barge into a
den of thieves and live to tell the tale. Confronting
terrorists – wherever they reside – is a very
dangerous undertaking. Doing so as an
independent is even more lethal if not legally
dicey. No matter how vicious and ruthless the
terrorists are, ‘our side’ will always herald charges
of criminality against those determined to save
this nation from our enemies. Marines and
soldiers have been brought up on charges and
Border Patrol agents thrown into prison for their
deeds. Do you anticipate faring better?
The ability to take out an al-Qaeda or
Hezbollah surrogate with one powerful, silent
round somewhere where the ‘authorities’ don’t
necessarily like Americans in the first place would
keep ‘our side’ from knowing what’s going on and
just might give you a chance to slip away. For
others, the need for concealment remains high…
