From the ‘honorable mention’ category, we
return to the Wildey Auto Pistols offered in .44
Auto Magnum, .45 Wildey Magnum, .45
Winchester Magnum, and .475 Wildey Magnum
with a variety of barrel lengths from 5” on up to
18” and in various configurations befitting hunting
and self-protection. None of which are practical as
a ‘tactical’ weapon but all are immensely valuable
in the personal preservation arena.
The .475, for example, has a superior

Wildey better for taking out targets at extended
range – not the first choice of duty for a pistol, but
flexibility is the concept of survival.
Now, let’s turn to the discussion of
ammunition for a bit. Since you won’t have an
army to supply or, perhaps, spend a great deal of
effort overseas tracking your prey, ammunition
must be given the greatest care in selection on
your part. Your choice should reflect upon
consistent, match-grade ammo but I would
recommend staying away from reloading your own
ammunition (we’ll discuss why a bit later when we
consider how to deal with ‘shot in self-defense’
situations).
