Counterterrorist<br />
Never had I become such a controversial<br />
subject than when I had begun to ‘preach’ the need<br />
for individual involvement within the fight against<br />
terrorism. My steadfast opposition towards<br />
abortion seems to have shifted little concern. My<br />
pro-American stance has created few enemies<br />
from amongst my foreign compatriots. My overtly<br />
religious novels had caught very little attention,<br />
even from my non-religious fans.<br />
However, as soon as I state that fighting<br />
terrorism is “everyone’s business” I became<br />
something of a renegade within our population.<br />
Why? Undoubtedly because whenever you<br />
mention fighting terrorism, one of only three<br />
thoughts come immediately to the mind of most<br />
people:<br />
1. Combating terrorism conjures up images of<br />
Hollywood action flicks detailing the<br />
exploits of Navy SEALS, Delta Force, or<br />
some CIA-based group;<br />
2. Combating terrorism is a police function, to<br />
be handled only by certified police officers,<br />
federal agents, or teams of international<br />
diplomats;<br />
3. Terrorism is a minor disturbance that does<br />
not deserve the attention that it receives.<br />
It is, and always has been (since at least<br />
1981), my personal belief that everyone must be<br />
