Yourself, as an Independent
Counterterrorist
Never had I become such a controversial
subject than when I had begun to ‘preach’ the need
for individual involvement within the fight against
terrorism. My steadfast opposition towards
abortion seems to have shifted little concern. My
pro-American stance has created few enemies
from amongst my foreign compatriots. My overtly
religious novels had caught very little attention,
even from my non-religious fans.
However, as soon as I state that fighting
terrorism is “everyone’s business” I became
something of a renegade within our population.
Why? Undoubtedly because whenever you
mention fighting terrorism, one of only three
thoughts come immediately to the mind of most
people:
1. Combating terrorism conjures up images of
Hollywood action flicks detailing the
exploits of Navy SEALS, Delta Force, or
some CIA-based group;
2. Combating terrorism is a police function, to
be handled only by certified police officers,
federal agents, or teams of international
diplomats;
3. Terrorism is a minor disturbance that does
not deserve the attention that it receives.
It is, and always has been (since at least
1981), my personal belief that everyone must be
