There is, after all, nothing inherently wrong with
shouting “Hot damn! Praise the Lord! I shot the
bastard between the eyes!” It’s when we resort to
“Please, dear Lord. Kindly deflect those Katyuscha
rockets away from me” that things get to be a little
dicey.
God does not play favorites with free will.
He might tweak the human psyche every now and
then or disrupt the natural world, but He doesn’t
manhandle the situation. Even Christ Himself
more or less stated “If my kingdom were of this
world, then my armies would be fighting to keep
me from being handed over.” He knew that there
wasn’t another damn soul around him that was
prepared to die to save an innocent life. Times
haven’t changed any.
Enemies, you understand, make for strange
bedfellows. Common foes unite common enemies.
Shiite and Sunni ban together to wage war against
the West, sailors and Marines become good friends
during the Army-Navy game, and liberal
secularists join forces with Islamists to defeat
Christianity around the planet. God, for His part,
is akin to the hovering classroom instructor. He
would like to nudge us in the correct direction,
perhaps even “sneeze” out the answer, but He
knows that the only way that we’ll learn is by
solving the problem ourselves.
Thus for every ‘bad’ person that does
something terribly wrong, He provides us with
thousands upon thousands that should, it would
seem, fit the “good model”. It is therefore up to us
to find a way in which to use that which He has
