APRIL 9
OPENING THE DOOR
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens
the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me.” (Rev 3:
20)
So here’s another mind-blowing passage of the Book of Revelation,
which I really do not read often enough. I am more aware of the passage
in the Gospel of Matthew (and Luke), in which the Lord tells me: “Ask
and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door
will be opened to you” (Mt 7: 7, cf. Lk 11:9). But here in Revelation He
reminds me that, whether or not I am asking, seeking, and knocking, He
is always at my door, knocking and calling me to open up and let Him in.
He is there, all-inclusively, for “anyone” who hears His voice. He is always
willing to do that, and is doing that, even when we don’t.
Let me hear His voice today, letting Him in and letting go of self-centered
fear and self-reliance. Let me dine with Him, and He with me, at the table
of His word, which nurtures me throughout my day.
