MARCH 10
MAKING DECISIONS & ANXIETY
“Do not be anxious/worried about anything (μηδὲν μεριμνᾶτε), but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be made known to God.” (Phil 4:6)
I sometimes get quite worried, when I need to make an important
decision or an important change. So I either put it off or over-think it, or
both.
The Apostle reminds me today to let all this “be made known to God,” and
thus relieve the burden of worry and anxiety. I obviously do need to make
decisions, large and small, on a daily basis, to manage my life responsibly.
But worry and anxiety creeps into even simple responsibilities when I
leave God out of the picture; when I fall into self-reliance, carrying the
burden of my situations and decisions on my own shoulders.
Today I gratefully begin my day, by getting briefly on my knees and
“letting my requests be made known to God,” Who can and does give me
the wisdom and courage to carry out any responsibility. He shares my
burdens, when I share them with Him. Because “prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving,” as the Apostle assures me, relieves me daily from the
burdens of worry and anxiety.
