JUNE 22
OUR FATHER
”But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a
woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the
law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons,
God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’
So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then also an heir of God
through Christ.” (Gal 4: 4-7)
Christ is “born of a woman” and becomes one of us, sharing our humanity,
opening the door for us to share in His divinity; in His heretofore-unique
dignity of being God’s Son and sole Heir to God’s kingdom. Is this an
extravagant or empty promise? No, I don’t think so. I find that God
restores my lost sense of belonging, of connection, often on a daily basis,
whenever I choose to enter the wide-open door of His fellowship and
communion.
Today, whenever I cry out, “Our Father…,” I remember gratefully that I
do so with His Son, Who first prayed in this way, as one of us. No longer
is any one of us truly separate, nor floating about like an island,–no
matter how “disconnected” or broken one may feel in the area of human
relationships. God has His kingdom on offer for every one of us, including
me; His entire inheritance is there, as well as a place for me at His family
table,–as cheesy as that may sound. He indeed has a “place,” the proper
place, and a proper home, in Him and with Him, for everyone. “Our
Father,” I say today, letting Him restore my proper place with Him and in
Him. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done” with me today, for Yours is
the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Here and now, and forever.
