MARCH 6
WISDOM vs. ANXIETY
“The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established
the heavens; By His knowledge the depths were broken up, and clouds drop
down the dew. My son, let them not depart from your eyes — keep sound
wisdom and discretion; So they will be life to your soul and grace to your
neck. Then you will walk safely in your way, and your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your
sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from
the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence, and will
keep your foot from being caught.” (Prov 3: 19-26)
Let it not be said that “existential angst” was discovered by the modernday.
This ancient text knows all about it. And what is the antidote to it?
God’s wisdom, God’s discretion and “knowledge.” How often do I ask Him
for wisdom? Not often enough.
Today let me ask God for wisdom, understanding, discretion and
knowledge. Let Him renew in me the ultimate “knowledge,” that He,
simply put, “is.” Because at the root of anxiety is a losing sight of God’s
presence. Anxiety comes when I leave God out of the picture, and proceed
in self-reliance, attempting to carry the world on my own shoulders.
Today let me let God in, and replace fear with faith, so “the Lord will be
my confidence, and will keep my foot from being caught.”
