neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out<br />

of my mouth.<br />

Although oranges and grapes grow quite well<br />

in the Middle East, in the days of Christ, they had<br />

not yet learned to produce these fruits without<br />

seeds. <strong>The</strong>y did not have seedless grapes or<br />

oranges. What do you do when you eat grapes and<br />

you have seeds in your mouth? You spit them out.<br />

That was a phrase that was used in the Middle East<br />

as a symbol of rejection. To “spit out” means “to<br />

reject,” and we shall see this both from the Bible<br />

and the Spirit of Prophecy.<br />

But here’s the problem: Jesus Christ is telling<br />

us that our works are not hot, neither cold, but<br />

lukewarm. Now He makes this statement in verse<br />

15, which we need to take note of:<br />

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold<br />

nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!<br />

In other words, if we were hot, he would be<br />
